Throwback Thursday: Double Outkast

Throwback Thursday: Outkast

Since this week the new hip-hop duo The Throne (Jay-Z and Kanye West) dropped their album Watch The Throne; I just wanted to take it back to a well known hip-hop duo and one of the most successful hip-hop groups - Outkast.

As their a duo, I thought I'd drop two of their tracks, both from their fifth studio album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. First throwback is 'The Way You Move' from the 'Speakerboxxx' side of the double album - recorded by Big Boi. The 2003 number one single features a very blusey R&B guest vocal from Sleepy Brown. THE LINK... The video directed by Bryan Barber has a bridging sequence to Andre 3000's spirit lifting and brilliantly electrifying track 'Hey Ya' which comes of 'The Love Below' side of the double album. The awesome video has 8 versions of Andre singing and playing as part of a band which was part of making it one of the 'Top 100 Music videos of All Time' in 2006 according to Stylus Magazine.

"SHAKE IT LIKE A POLAROID PICTURE !!"

Drake Gets His R&B On !!

Drake Covers Destiny's Child

In my world all Drake can do is impress, in the real world all he can do is impress. We all know the rapper has a thing about singing, and the real world is split with his vocals - it's like marmite you either love it or hate it. One thing you can't hate his voice is for paying a little tribute to Destiny's Child by singing one of their classics. Drizzy decided to get his 'R&B on' at the second annual OVO Festival in Toronto by getting down with a couple lines from their year 2000 hit 'Say My Name'. PERSONALLY... I think he should sample take it a step further and sample it on some sort of pre-release R&B mixtape before Take Care drops in October. Check it out, below...

Well he did say back in 2007 in his short track, 'Bitch Is Crazy' - from his Comeback Season mixtape,

I gotta get mt R&B on you know
I wanna wear the wife beaters
With the slit at the top so I can tear it easy and all that
I wanna sing in the rain girl
You know what I'm talking 'bout?

SO... getting his R&B on - check, wife beater - almost, slit at the top and singing in the rain is still to be checked off the list. Maybe he should do this in on of his concerts. That would be bloody awesome cool.

LOVE IT !!

Throwback Thursday: Back To Black

In Memory of Amy Winehouse

This Throwback Thursday, it had to be an Amy Winehouse track. She would have been one of my throwbacks anyway, but time is of the essence, with her untimely death an all. This one is for all her fans, and those otherwise that enjoyed her talent. Coming of her Grammy Award winning 2006 album Back To Black, the song entitled the same speaks of her then heartbreak split from her ex-husband. The album currently stands in the #1 position of the UK album charts for the second time since 2007. The video directed by Phil Griffin is shot perfectly in black and white which adds to the melancholy of the funeral procession where Amy burrys her broken heart. Enjoy, in memory of her legendary talent.

MAY HER SOUL REST IN PERFECT PEACE :(

New Video: Drake - Marvin's Room

Video: Marvin's Room

I'm sure a video for Drake's viral track 'Marvin's Room' has been well anticipated, and one has finally debuted. The song that has Drizzy getting his R&B on in a rather melancholy way has taken the web by storm since it was first posted on the OVO (October's Very Own) blog back on June 9th. A matter of fact it seems to have taken the R&B world by storm as various artists have made remixes. IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD IT... the track is about a drunken Drake who has called up his ex saying that she "could do better" than the guy that she claims to "love so bad" !! THE VISUAL... Directed by Hyghly of XO and shot in Toronto, the video I think they smashed it as it meets the concept of the song. The video being so simple and strict to the lyrics actually proves to be much more effective than the many high budget videos floating around right now. With no further adieu, check it out...

PS. Look out for my 'Marvin's Room' article later this week discussing all the remixs including Jo Jo and Chris Brown's take on the track.

GOES PERFECTLY WITH THE SONG !!

New Video: Estelle - Break My Heart

Video: Break My Heart ft. Rick Ross

Homegrown talent Estelle is back with something awesome again. The rapper turned songstress has up with Rick Ross for the second single of her third studio album All of Me. The single 'Break My Heart' has been out for a while getting a frequent spin on the radio, but has only peaked #48 on the US Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B chart. Hopeful the newly released visual directed by Chris Robinson that made it's debut on 106&Park last week, will boot the track up the chart. Hopefully it makes top 10 over here !! Enjoy :)

NICE TUNE !!

New Video: DJ Khaled - I'm On One

I'm On One (ft. Drake, Rozay & Weezy)

DJ Khaled's 'I'm On One' featuring Drake, Rick 'Rozay' Ross and Lil' Wayne now has a visual. I've been playing this track like crazy but it's not really a track to expect a video as awesome to match. I didn't even expect a visual at all as there's not much you could really do with it other than have the artists (of course), alcohol accompanied with some kush, randoms, chicks a lush car Weezy bouncing about and Rozay's belly !! *DRUM ROLL...* that's exactly what you get !! Maybe not in that order but they're all there nevertheless. Sorry to be a party pooper !! What I did find funny though was the contrast; how DJ Khaled had it all lush with a bottle and glasses and Drizzy had his 'three cups' as he says in his verse !! Oh well they're all rich !! Birdman also makes a cameo appearance in the clip. I totally love how Drizzy can swear in song in such a lovely way in such a hood song. Gotta love him hey..? Check out the video...

BANGER !!

New Video: Rihanna - Man Down

Rihanna: Man Down (Video)

FINALLY !! Rihanna's fifth single (US) 'Man Down' has finally made an appearance. The visual was just freshly premiered on BET's "106 & Park" (around 12am UK). The joint which was co-written by fellow Bajan Shontelle, had to be shot somewhere in the Caribbean to match with the rhythmic reggae sounds produced by Shama Joseph. The video was shot and directed by Anthony Mandler in Jamaica in April 2011. Mandler told MTV News of the video in May:

"It's just one of those songs that demands a strong narrative and visual...you can expect something that's dramatic and shocking and intense and emotional and uplifting and enlightening."

The last couple of videos Mandler has shot for RiRi have been very floral and pretty; not to say this one isn't pretty but the reality of the song is seriously emotional a tad disturbing and definitely dramatic !! When it comes to translating audio to a visual Mandler is your man, and he has lived up to every word he told MTV under a month ago. The visual other than the guns that add the 'gangsta' appeal that Rihanna told MTV of last year, really makes you want to book a flight out to Jamaica and enjoy the relaxed vibe of the island while sipping on some fresh jelly coconut juice - as Rihanna does in the footage. MESSAGE...Rihanna also tweeted earlier that there is a message in her 'shocking' track: dsds

"Very strong underlying message 4 girls like me! #listentoyomama"

ONE ISSUE... the video could potentially be band from certain channels as did her S&M video, but this time due to the violent elements to the song and video. I'm hoping that they won't edit it or band it, but we'll see. Apologies in advance if the video doesn't work. With no further adieu, check it out...

COOL VIDEO!!

New Video: California King Bed

Rihanna: California King Bed (Video)

FINALLY !! Rihanna has blessed us with a visual for the sixth single 'California King Bed' from her album Loud. The video is perfect for the track thanks to the creative brilliance of Anthony Mandler - who also directed 'Only Girl In The World'. The videos are pretty similar especially in tint - the natural rosey colours that seem to be the theme of her album. Some have even describe it as the "same" as 'Only Girl' only with the addition of the hot male model. In the video we see a sensual rather than the uber sexified side to RiRi - and she is looking BEAUTIFUL in the clip. The set was chosen well and shots are brilliant. Check it out, and enjoy...

WONDERFUL VISUAL !!

Kelly Is Motivated !!

Video: Motivation - Kelly Rowland

Kelly Rowland is back, and back with a venomous bite of sexiness. After the revelation 'Motivation' last month - the supposedly leading single from her third upcoming studio album; my ears have been hooked. This all courtesy of Jim Jonsin's technical genius on the production and Rico Love's scribed creativeness. NOW... we have been blessed with a visual directed by English Sarah Chatfield - this video has to be the SEXIEST video of the year thus far. The choreography is nothing but sensual and sexy - perfect for the sensual tone and vibe you get from the production. The amount of male candy is oh so great and for the guys there's a sexy scene between Kelly and one of the female video girls. To add to all that sexiness is the low autotuned vocal performance from Lil' Wayne who features on the track. WHAT I'M SAYING...  sorry RiRi with 'S&M' but Kelly just knocked you off the sexy chart, and I'm totally motivated !! Check the recently premiered video below, and get motivated !!

VERY MOTIVATING (WINK WINK) !!

New Video: In The Morning

J. Cole: In The Morning (ft. Drake)

The video for J. Cole's Friday Night Lights, track 'In the Morning' featuring Drake is finally here. Cole just about managed to drop the video on his blog before Valentines Day was over - bless him. ANYWAYS... the most important thing is that the video is here. The feature is more of a documentary type visual. It captures them performing the track on their recent tour and follows a mysterious, but pretty lady. Cole told MTV:

He adds, "And just the magic of that tour. To give people a look into that."

WELL... I'm feeling it. If you listen to the lyrics the visuals do complement the track well. Check out the clip below and of course enjoy :)

CUTE VID !!

New Video: Black Friday

Lil' Kim: Black Friday Video

A little over a month ago I dropped the preview for Lil' Kim's 'Black Friday' video. Well guess what - the pretty obvious, it's here now. IF YOU'RE... looking at that image to your right, that's the mixtape cover - also part of the whole 'black friday' diss !! It's a hit back at Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday album cover, with the whole Barbie look. Here the notorious K.I.M has the famous pink bob wig in a pool of blood and the cover is dark and gloomy in comparison to the playful pink Nicki has. OUCH !! Also, if you've heard about the 'free' mixtape that Queen Bee has for her fans. Free isn't really the word that should have been used to describe it  as she apparently has been selling it on PayPal for $9.99. HONESTLY... I know she has fans that would've/ will purchase it regardless but for a comeback and in this day and age it's about going your fans something making them want an album. BACK TO THE VIDEO... It's all basically what I discussed in relating post prior to this one. If you missed that, click this like right here ← YEAH THAT :) If you're feeling a little forward or have read that article, check the video below. Enjoy the diss :D

JHEEEEZ !!

New Video: All of the Lights

Kanye West: All of the Lights

Freshly premiered via Kanye West's VEVO channel is the video for 'All of the Lights'. FINALLY... the track featuring Rihanna and Kid Cudi was featured on the end of his 'Runaway' video finally has it's own visual. Yet again Mr West has gone for some visually exiting but confusing stuff with the help of directed Hype Williams. The clip is a mixture of flashy neon text and clips of West, RiRi and Cudi individually. CONFUSION... for the first minute of the video there are some real beautiful shots, but you'll kind of be like WTF? and RELEVANCE? but of course it makes sense in due course. The other bit of confusion - unless you've done your research like moi, is that there are all these other stars names at the end of the track. These are some of the guest vocalists including: Alicia Keys, John Legend, The-Dream, Fergie, La Roux, Elton John, Ryan Leslie, Charlie Wilson and Tony Williams. YUP.... I agree that's a lot to take in. All of these stars vocals have been layered so it will be a lot of ear work to hear them all individually. ONE LAST THING.... serious props to Hadaya Turner who was the lead editor on the clip - brilliant work. Now y'all can check the clip out after the jump. Enjoy :)

LOVING THIS !!

Valentines Special: My Top 5 Songs

My TOP 5 Valentines Tracks...♥

I don't particularly celebrate Valentines Day, but I absolutely love my slow jams. I don't think you need a certain day to wine and dine with a lover or get down to special music !! BUT... my top 5 right here are definitely appropriate for the day. Check them out...

♥ 'Freek'n You': This is probably the track Jodeci are most known for - especially for the amateurs (no offence).  From their third studio album, The Show, the After Party, the Hotel. This 1995 track that peaked at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100 is definitely certified to get things started.

♥ '25 Resons': has to be on this list. Representing the ladies, Nivea's 2002 hit from her self-titled debut album was a banger. Now this one's for the fellas, you better hope your woman this Valentines - unless she's just a date, is in love with you !!

♥ 'So Anxious': from Ginuwine back in 1999. The single from his second album, 100%Ginuwine peaked the Billboard Hot 100 at #16. Never mind the position it sat at though this track is a 100%  set-the-mood type track. The lyrics, the tone and the production would make you want to do something really nasty nice !!

♥ 'Slow': From the multi-talented Jamie Foxx's third studio album, this track is oh so sexy. This number is a lyrical masterpiece, and my favourite cut from his 2008 album. Trust me on this one, he gave us 'Blame It' from this release and that's still spinning on the radio, so believe me when I say this track is a HOT ONE for this Valentines Day.

♥ 'My Boo': This duet from 2004 seems to have been forgotten in the world of R&B. The cut from Usher's fourth studio album Confessions with the lovely Alicia Keys is such a beautiful track. I don't know why it has disappeared. I haven't forgotten and that's why it has made my top 5 this Valentines Day.

THESE TRACKS ARE CERTIFIED !!

New Video: Rihanna - S&M

Rihanna's BAD !!

Rihanna is about to top the charts again with her latest single from the LOUD album, 'S&M'. The video directed by Melina Matsoukas (the lady responsible for Ludacris' 'Money Maker' video) is very fun, vibrant and of course raunchy !! Here we see RiRi as a party animal with that crazy Ronald McDonald wig she was wearing the other week. There's also a cameo from the queen of celebrity blogging Perez Hilton !!  WHAT I THINK... it's a real cool video, and this Stargate produced track is definitely going to climb the charts. Might even be another UK #1 for the star !! The fish eye camera lens that create those really zoomed in shots remind me very much of Pink's 2001 UK #2 video for 'Get This Party Started'. ANYWAYS... check out the hot new video, and enjoy...

LIKING THIS !!

New Video: Jessie J - Pricetag

Video: Jessie J ft. B.o.B

The talented U.K. singer Jessie J is just simply taking the world by storm. After her huge hit 'Do It Like A Dude' smashed the charts and officially placed her on the map of stardom, she's back with something new. Her new track 'Price Tag' featuring rapper B.o.B. is a more meaningful track compared to her debut. The track talks about money not being everything and it's really cute and sassy. The concept of the video is totally BRILLIANT !! The video directed by Emil Nava has a real kids play vibe about it - which really echo's the innocence of the story she's telling in her self. MY VERDICT... I totally fell in love with this video, it' real sweet, and the track is a killer. I hope it goes #1. Check it out and enjoy :)

LOVE IT !!

FRIDAY TREAT: MANN - BUZZIN'

Mann: Buzzin' (Remix) ft. 50 Cent

This has to be my track of the week. Though it is so 2010. I see it going places this year !! The catchy track titled 'Buzzin' featuring the man of the moment 50 Cent samples the 1986 track 'I Can't Wait' by Nu Shooz.  SO... you know it's got to be good - sampled tracks usually are !! WHY IS IT A TREAT...? It's something to really kick off your weekend. Aren't you glad it's Friday..? Enjoy :)

LOVING THIS. CERTIFIED!!

New Video: Tinie Temaph - Wonderman

Tinie Tempah: Wonderman Video

Tinie Tempah is sure on a rise !! Surpassing his 2010 stardom with four BRIT award nominations so far this year there's no doubt this year he'll be an even bigger star. With 'Invinsible' currently pumping through our radios Tinie has got his next banger lined up for us. Featuring fellow BRIT nominee Ellie Goulding, 'Wonderman' - another Labrinth produced track that is surely set to take the #1 spot when it is officially released March 7th. As we wait for that moment, check out the 70s - The Six Milllion Dollar Man inspired video...

NICE ONE !!

New Video: Moment 4 Life

Moment 4 Life Video

Every Barbie must have a fairy tale wedding, it's just protocol and the way of life !! Here Nicki Minaj is having hers, or at least a "royal celebration" as she told MTV News. She enjoys her special moment with fellow rapper Drake, a moment granted by her very own British fairy godmother !! YES... be prepared for her famous English accent, which to me sounds like a mixture of the Queens English and Australian. Well at least it has that entertainment factor !! Directed by Chris Robinson, who's worked with the likes of Alicia Keys, Jay-z and Nas works well with the concept of the song. ANYWAYS... check it out and enjoy her 'Moment 4 Life' :)

CUTE !!

Throwback Thursday: Lil' Kim - The Jump Off

Lil' Kim: The Jump Off

I haven't had a #ThrowbackThursday since I introduced it to my blog, so y'all getting a treat today !! Today we're having a bit of a Lil' Kim day since she's back on the radar. I'm taking this one back to this month 7 years ago. YUP... I'm talking the long gone 2003. Produced by Timberland, it's one of my favourite productions, and featuring the vocals of Mr. Cheeks. Something to start off your Thursday afternoon with, I give you 'The Jump Off'.

CLASSIC !!

VOTW: Kanye West - 'Runaway'

Kanye West: Runaway

If you're thinking "girl there's nothing new about this video", well yes I know !! It's just that the video hasn't been uploaded to the site I use for my VOTW. It's up now, but just in case it's there temporarily you can view Kanye West's longest video right here under this text. Get yourself sitting comfortably, maybe even grab a drink and a snack, because this short film is 30 minutes long. That's just to round the number of to the nearest 10 !! It's really good though, if you have an open mind and a creative imagination. In addition to that a very good attention span !! Enjoy :)

I LOVE THIS, VERY CREATIVE !!
